Introduction
The Kuwait University Libraries Administration (KULA) supervises the
administrative and technical aspects concerning the university libraries
and is considered a basic center for academic and research activities at
Kuwait University.
The technical divisions handle the
centralized acquisitions and cataloging processes, whereas the libraries
provides information services to the
university colleges.
Mission
The mission of the Kuwait University Libraries (KUL) is to provide and
promote access to information in all formats in support of academic
programs and scholarly research at the university in addition to meeting
the information needs of the local community.
The Collections
Kuwait University Libraries collection contains approximately
233733 titles /
366,561
volumes of Arabic and non-Arabic monographs, 1233 original manuscripts and
14,885 manuscripts on microfiche/microfilm, reference materials,
dissertations and reports in different branches of knowledge. KUL subscribes to
64 databases and 2445
scientific periodicals.
Electronic journals are available through full text databases and
through LibriAccess. The
audio-visual collection consists of approximately 20,000 items.
The Catalog
Kuwait University Libraries
Administration follows international classification system : Library of
Congress (LC) and Dewey Decimal System.
Currently, the library catalog includes bibliographic records for
the Arabic and foreign books of all disciplines. English periodicals may
also be searched through the catalog. Item information and copy’s locations are
being updated.
Acquisitions and Circulation modules have been successfully implemented. Libraries Administration is working on adding Manuscripts and other formats of information sources to the Library
Catalog.
